Welcome

This is a student loan comparison tool that is meant to help you compare loans from the lenders that our students use the most. It is not exhaustive; there are other student loans that are not included in this tool that you may want to research. Only apply for a student loan once you’ve exhausted all scholarships, grants, and other forms of assistance, and do not borrow more than what you need.

If you have questions, please contact our office so we can help!

Lender List Rationale

Policy and Procedure for Preferred Lender List

Alderson-Broaddus College maintains a preferred lender list to help students choose the lender that will provide the best benefits and service to the student. A student has the right to choose any lender they wish, and it is the responsibility of the financial aid office to process federal loans for any lender that the student wishes as efficiently as possible.

Most students are not aware of the different lenders and borrower benefits that are available. Any lender can submit a proposal to be added to the preferred lender list. The financial aid office reviews every proposal and makes a recommendation to the financial aid committee, which is made up of faculty, staff, and students, who then determine whether to add a lender to the preferred lender list.

Both the financial aid office and financial aid committee evaluates every lender proposal on the following criteria:

  • Borrower Benefits;
  • Lender stability and the quality of lender products, services and customer service;
  • Lender Operational Standards;
  • Lender Value-Added Support and Services;
  • Private Loans;
  • Default Management.

The financial aid office and financial aid committee should identify student needs and expectations, institutional operational needs, and performance criteria. While this is not exhaustive, it is meant as a guide for decision-makers to do what is best for students. NASFAA has good resources on selecting preferred lenders www.nasfaa.org.

The primary goal of the financial aid professional is to help students achieve their educational potential by providing appropriate financial resources. We commit ourselves to the highest level of ethical behavior and refrain from any conflict of interest or the perception thereof.
