Scholarships for Adult Students
Even if you are an adult and wish to continue your education or want to complete a different degree in accordance with your change in career, you will always have the option of applying to college. Even so, regardless of what stage of your life you are in, you will find that college expenses are costly. Most adult students are parents (sometimes single parents), part time employees, or in a situation in which funds are limited. If you are an adult who wishes to pursue a college degree, do not think that you cannot apply for scholarships. Though adult scholarships are limited, they are still available.
Scholarships Available from Your School
Once you have decided which college you want to go to, you should look into all of the different types of financial aid available. Many colleges understand the position of adult students and offer grants and college scholarships for adults specifically designed to help these types of students. If you are pursuing an online degree, there are many grants available for students based on need. If you can demonstrate your need for financial aid, then you can find yourself eligible for a need-based scholarship.
Need Based Scholarships
Since a majority of adult students are supporting not only themselves but also their families, enrolling in college becomes difficult from the financial aspect. Even for people in these situations, help is available in the form of different organizations which aim to help them. One such example is the Executive Women International which offers the Adult Students in Scholastic Transition Scholarship (ASIST). The ASIST targets those adults who are troubled financially, economically, or physically and want to improve their quality of life through education.
Some scholarships available to adult students include the Kazimour Scholarship, the AAUW Career Development Grant, the Larry McDonald Scholarship, the ‘FACT’ Second Chance Scholarship, the Talbot’s Women’s Scholarship Fund, scholarships and fellowships available from the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation.
