Student Loans for NYU Students
About NYU Financial Aid Program
New York University, established in 1831, is now one of the largest universities in America with over 40,000 students and 3,100 faculty members. As a part of its mission to become academically elite, NYU has invested in its Financial Aid program. Due to the large size of the university, the NYU Financial Aid program cannot meet the full financial need of every student who attends NYU, but the University does offer multiple options for funding, as well as counseling for students who need to pursue external sources of funding to afford an NYU education.
Applying for NYU financial aid is a relatively straightforward process, and is no different than applying for any other school. Before you submit any applications, you should talk to the NYU Financial Aid office about any grants and/or scholarships you might be eligible for, and whether you will need student loans to cover the cost of attending NYU. After that, you should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS/PROFILE forms, which will be used to determine your financial need and ultimately your NYU financial aid package. Once you submit these forms, your application process will be complete, and you will receive a financial package some time thereafter.
NYU and Student Loans
A typical NYU financial aid package may consist of university grants, scholarships, a work-study program, and federal student loans. As NYU cannot meet the full need of every student, private student loans are often necessary for students whose needs are not fully met by NYU financial aid. Most students are encouraged to work either through a work-study program or on a part-time basis independently while they are in school, so they have a small income to offset personal expenses. Students who need student loans to attend NYU should exhaust all federal aid options as their first source of funding, and then pursue private student loans to cover whatever financial gap may remain after their NYU financial aid package.
