The University of New England (UNE) is a coeducational institute located in Maine. This independent university has two campuses in the state: one in Biddeford and one in Portland. The university is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. UNE has been considered a top notch institute of comprehensive higher education since its inception in 1939.
Currently, this private nonprofit university has over 7,330 students in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree programs. There are six colleges in UNE: The College of Arts & Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine, The Westbrook College of Health Professions, College of Pharmacy, College of Dental Medicine and College of Graduate Studies-Public Health.
UNE Financial Aid
Students can find a variety of financial aid options offered by the UNE financial aid department. There are also many centers of research at the university, which may offer funding to students who are facing financial hardships. These include Center for Land-Sea Interactions (CLSI): Human, River and Ocean Health, Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences (CEN), Center for Global Humanities (CGH) and Center for Community and Public Health (CCPH). The aim of these centers is to promote the fields of study and offer funding to students who are facing financial hardships.
The University of New England financial aid department requires each student to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and submit it online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Supporting documents such as bank statements are also required with the form.
Through the FAFSA, students at UNE can apply for a variety of institutional and federal aid, including the Federal Direct (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) Loans, Federal Direct PLUS Loan (for Parents) and other loan programs such as Perkins and Educators for Maine. The university also accepts grants and work-study programs, in addition to scholarships.

Students who want to receive financial aid at UNE must at least be enrolled on a halftime basis, be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen, and maintain satisfactory academic progress. More, students cannot have defaulted on loans, and they must not be obligated to repay a federal education grant. All student must sign a declaration stating that the assistance funds will be used for educational purposes only.
