When it comes to borrowing money for college, federal student loans are the first source of funding to tap. With lower and often fixed interest rates, as well as pretty favorable borrowing terms, federal student loans are far more appealing than private loans. However, private loans generally have no borrowing limit, while federal loans tend to have quite low borrowing limits. If you take out as much as you can in federal loans and are still in need of funding, consider a private student loan.
