Augustana College Financial Aid

About Augustana College

Augustana College Financial Aid

For starters, there are two unaffiliated Augustana Colleges out there, and we're talking about the one in Illinois. While the Augustana College in North Dakota seems cool, the one in Illinois has really caught our collective eye. It is home to a student body of just about 2,500 students, and is nestled on 115 acres of woodsy land in the town of Rock Island next to the Mississippi River. A small student body makes for a cozy student-teacher ratio, as well as a closely-knit community on campus. Greek life is popular, as are clubs and student-run organizations.

Budgeting and Augustana College Financial Aid

Here's the good news—97% of students at Augustana receive some form of financial aid. The not-so-good news is that tuition at Augustana is about $40,000, so not every student will find it easy to cover the total cost of attendance. With this in mind, if you're studying at Augustana, it's pretty important to control your expenses: be mindful of how many late-night delivery orders you place on the weekends. If you keep your spending to a necessary minimum, covering the cost of Augustana will be more manageable.

Applying for Augustana College Financial Aid

Since it's a private institution, applicants for Augustana College financial aid need to submit an institution-specific aid form in addition to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for any funding. We can't help you out with the school's own form, but we do know a thing or two about the FAFSA: check out our FAFSA coach to make the filing process a breeze. Once you send these two forms in, your aid application will be complete; you should hear a decision from the aid office before or with your next tuition bill.

Augustana College Financial Aid Packages

The Augustana College Financial Aid program gives aid to most all students, but that does not mean the aid offered is comprehensive. There are always students at Augustana, as is the case at nearly every school, who find themselves stuck with a financial gap between their aid award and the cost of attendance. In situations like this, federal loans are a good form of financial aid to cover the gap. If federal loans aren't enough, use our Student Loan Comparison Tool above on this page to find the private student loan that fits your budget and will enable you to attend Augustana.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:Are there any private student loans offered by the Augustana financial aid office?

A:No, the Augustana financial aid office does not offer or endorse any private student loans. Students looking for financial aid are strongly recommended to take advantage of both institutional and federal options first before turning to private lenders. There is a list of private lenders available on the Augustana financial aid website, but it is only a list of the lenders most frequently used by Augustana students, not an endorsement. The Augustana financial aid office is happy to help students who are trying to navigate the paying for college process and to determine where their college funding will come from.

Q:What should I include in my estimate when applying for Augustana College financial aid?

A:Having a prior estimate can help students apply for Augustana College financial aid accurately and effectively. Students are recommended to include tuition and room and board expenses as primary costs, but textbooks, travel, and personal expenses can also fall under the umbrella of a student's total cost of attendance. The current tuition rates are available on the Augustana College website. Students should also leave room for laboratory fees, extra lessons and miscellaneous expenses, just to be on the safe side. It is also recommended that students apply by filling out the FAFSA before the deadline.
