About Baylor University

Baylor University is a Christian (Baptist, to be specific) university located in Waco, Texas. Home to 15,000 undergraduate students, Baylor is a member of the Big 12 Conference and is a research oriented university with ‘High Research Activity,’ as deemed by the Carnegie Institute (which is kind of a big deal). Sporting the lowest acceptance rate of any Big 12 school, Baylor still routinely amasses impressive records across many of its athletic programs, men’s basketball and football not least of all.

Budgeting and Baylor Financial Aid

It doesn’t make sense to spend money for unnecessary reasons when you’re borrowing money to pay for school. Does it? Not really, right? Right. So why spend tons of money when you’re off at school and are receiving Baylor financial aid? There’s no good reason. Now, a trip every now and then to somewhere like Vitek’s Barbeque or Whataburger is okay, as long as you don’t make a habit of it, but we’re really just trying to encourage you to be financially responsible. It’s not that hard!

Applying for Baylor Financial Aid

Baylor’s a private university, but they only require the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) from students who wish to receive financial aid. If you are applying for Baylor financial aid and are a resident of Texas, however, you have the pleasure of filling out an additional form: the Texas Residency Questionnaire for Texas Residents to Receive State Aid. We don’t know that form, but it can’t be that bad: all you have to say, basically, is yes, I do in fact live in Texas. Easy, right? Good. Apart from that, if you have any questions, just give the Baylor financial aid office a holler and they should be able to help you out.

Baylor Financial Aid Packages

Financial aid packages are all pretty standard, when you look at what goes into them: student loans, grants, work-study programs, and scholarships make up most financial aid offers, and Baylor financial aid packages are no different. Of course, exactly what you receive and how much of each piece varies depending on your financial need (and whether or not you live in Texas and thus qualify for some form of financial aid from the state), but that’s about what it boils down to. For many students, their aid package from Baylor will satisfy their financial need without any external support, but for some, it just won’t quite cut it.

These students often find themselves with a gap between their financial aid award and the total cost of attendance at Baylor, which takes into account costs and expenses beyond just tuition and room and board.
