Clemson is a public university, founded as an agriculturally focused military academy in 1889. Between then and the present day, Clemson has seen many changes, from being reclassified as a civilian school, then becoming coeducational, then becoming integrated, and then becoming a university, a litany of changes which all took place in a period of 9 years (1955-1964). Now, Clemson is a top 25 national public university, and is home to almost 16,000 undergraduates and rabid Clemson Tiger fans: both the Clemson football and basketball programs are worth bragging about in the ACC.
