Throughout its history – which spans over a century and a half – Wittenberg has been a very vibrant institution with a rich tradition of encouraging original approaches to learning. Since its modest beginnings in 1845 (when the first class consisted of eight students) the university has grown immensely, as there are currently 2,000 full-time students hailing from 37 states and 30 foreign countries. Furthermore, the university offers a broad range of majors and special programs, as well as eight pre-professional programs. Notably, Wittenberg’s Thomas library boasts 400,000 volumes and provides students with access to Ohio Link, a syndicate of Ohio College and university libraries.
